Event Details

Thursday, October 15
4:00-7:00 p.m.

Virtual Event - Zoom

Discover the power of leveraging your skills in a virtual networking environment.

Determining what differentiates you from the competition and direct in-person contact with employers is the most successful way to secure future employment. At CareerUP, you will be taught key professional skills that you can immediately apply in a networking environment with employers & recruiters.

Benefits for YOU as a student:

  • Leveraging individual skills within the networking conversation.
  • Identifying areas of networking development and practicing those areas within a virtual learning environment.
  • Engaging with employers in meaningful conversations with a potential for future employment.
  • One on one session with KUEC staff to go over networking prep prior to the event
What are the benefits to employers or organizations:
  • Early identification of talent.
  • Professional mentorship opportunities to others in your chosen industry or career field.
  • Virtual networking practice

Who Should Attend

Workforce partners, organization leadership, hiring managers, non-profit managers, recruiters, Edwards Campus students, Edwards Campus Program Leadership, Faculty and staff.

This event will run like a reverse career fair. Students in one of the below three areas will be broken out into their own breakout room. Employers will then go from room to room "speed networking" for ten minutes with the student in each room. Once the hour is up, new students will come in to the breakout rooms and employers will begin the process again. Students are welcome to go to a different "category" for another hour during the event if they wish to network with employers from other industry areas. Students can also stay in their zoom room category for longer if they wish to talk to more employers (and there are more to talk to). Otherwise, they can leave after their hour is up. Employers are invited to attend for the full three hours or can opt to attend for less.

A Note for Students

  • Students will not get to choose which employers they talk to. This is part of the networking experience! We want you to practice networking with all employers because you never know what kind of connection you will make. If you really want to talk to a certain business, I would recommend staying in your room for longer because they will eventually pass through your breakout room.
  • All students who RSVP will be invited to schedule a "pre-networking" session with a KU employee. This involves us meeting with you for a few minutes to go over some networking basics prior to the event. You will also have the option to zoom in 30 minutes early and go to our "networking prep" breakout room.
